A Still Air Box or SAB as known to people in the mushroom community is a still air, partially-sterile closed environment, providing a barrier where air born floating fungal, viral, and bacterial particles can’t penetrate or fall down and contaminate a clean work space.
To work effectively your Still Air Box must be cleaned and sterilized properly and careful attention should be made to sterilizing any objects entering this closed environment before exposing your media to this working space.
It’s fairly simple to make your own SAB at home using everyday materials that can be found at your local dollar store, if not there are a number of mushroom suppliers online where these can be purchased ready-made.
You will need
A large, clear plastic box with a lid that can fit air-tight—generally, the larger and the clearer the better.
An empty metal can that is just wider than your arm.
